The great spiritual shrine of Montenegro, revered by Orthodox, Catholics and Muslims. Because here it doesn’t matter who you are, what matters is why you came here.
Ostrog Monastery is the third most visited shrine in the Christian world (after the Holy Sepulcher and Athos). This is a place where miracles are still performed, where many people seek and find medicine to heal their soul and body. The history of the Ostrog monastery is closely connected with the life and asceticism of St. Basil of Ostrog, who is known far beyond the borders of his country as a healer and defender of the Orthodox faith.
It is believed that the relics of the saint kept in the monastery have miraculous powers, and not only Orthodox Christians, but also Catholics and Muslims come to pray at his tomb. The monastery consists of two parts – Lower and Upper Ostrog. In the lower monastery there is the Church of the Holy Trinity (1820), cells, a garden and a vineyard. You can climb to the Upper Monastery on foot – this path is considered a real spiritual feat. You can also travel by minibus for a small fee. The upper part of the monastery is built into a rock niche at an altitude of 900 meters above sea level, it is on two levels, and the most important shrines of the monastery are located there. This part of the complex consists of two small churches: the Church of the Exaltation of the Cross (1665) and the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin Mary (1774), in which there is an icon case with the relics of the miracle worker St. Vasily Ostrozhsky.
