Right on the banks of the Grand Canal and just a few minutes’ walk from Piazza San Marco is The St. Regis Venice, which occupies five historic palazzos, the oldest of which was built in the 17th century.
The hotel’s privileged location and first-class service made it popular among the aristocracy and bohemians of the Belle Epoque.
At various times, writers Rudyard Kipling, Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir, composer Richard Strauss, film stars Orson Welles and Anna Magnani stayed here, and in 1908, the famous impressionist artist Claude Monet spent more than a month at the hotel, who was inspired by the delightful panorama of the city opening from here. It was here that he painted his painting “The Cathedral of San Giorgio Maggiore at Dusk”.
Today, guests can admire the fabulous Venetian landscapes while relaxing in their stylish rooms and on the wonderful Italian garden on the sun terrace, enjoying gourmet dishes at Gio’s restaurant and sipping cocktails at two cozy bars.
