Passalacqua, located in the center of Moltrasio, is surrounded by 3 hectares of marvelous landscaped gardens with ancient trees, fragrant flowers, graceful fountains and sun terraces with stunning views of the sparkling Lake Como. The hotel is located on the western shore of Lake Como, in the center of Moltrasio, 15 minutes’ drive from Como and about an hour’s drive from Milan.
The history of the villa begins in the 18th century, when Count Andrea Lucini-Passalacqua built a family palazzo in a neoclassical style, designed by the famous Milanese architect Carlo Soave, on the site of the former possessions of Pope Innocent XI. The villa’s guests were many celebrities, including Winston Churchill and Vincenzo Bellini, who wrote the opera La Sonnambula within its walls.
In 2018, the estate was acquired by the De Santis family, who opened the fashionable Passalacqua Hotel here, preserving the atmosphere of an ancient aristocratic villa – from the luxurious interiors of the rooms located in three historical buildings, to gastronomic delights in the restaurant and bars, and exclusive treatments in the Spa center, located in an underground gallery that leads to the lake shore.
In addition, guests can enjoy a library, a landscaped garden with open panoramic terraces, greenhouses, parking, an azure swimming pool in the park, a fitness center overlooking the olive grove, a tennis court, a private pier with pleasure boats and a variety of other options for an unforgettable holiday.

Imagine family breakfast in a big Italian country house in summer. That great smell of coffee as you walk into the kitchen, mingling with the heady scent of a marmalade crostata emerging from the oven. A glass of freshly-squeezed orange juice, the wide-eyed flourish of a meter-high alzatina cake stand piled high with granita, cream-filled maritozzo buns, mini-pizzas. Plus, of course, a chef on hand to prepare whatever you fancy – like sunny-side-ups made from eggs laid by our hens that morning – and friendly waitstaff ready to accommodate you wherever you choose to enjoy your breakfast.
That Caesar Salad at the Double J pool bar looks just great. But the restaurant terrace is so romantic and that Sauvignon Blanc the sommelier recommended yesterday was delicious. Perhaps, though, you should have a light lunch on the bar terrace, or inside the bar. They’re both such delightful hideaway spots. Or maybe you could take a chic-nic hamper on a boat? Then again, right here in the garden is so beautiful.
In northern Italy, the pre-dinner aperitivo is a ritual, one that is celebrated as warmly and passionately in the villas and cafés of Lake Como as it is in the historic bars of Turin and Milan. Negroni, spritz, dry Martini or champagne? Nestled in the delightfully cultured, old-school bar, down by the pool, or outside on the terrace?
As the sun sets behind Moltrasio, pearls of light begin to garland the far shore, and the clink and chime of glasses and voices rise on the breeze. Dinner on the candlit terrace, or in the Sala Ovale beneath frescoed gods and goddesses, is dedicated to beautifully-presented fresh, seasonal, classic Italian cuisine, and to you.
